A grand view awaits atop Mt. Washington, one of the most visited neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. Perched on the hilltops just south of downtown, this neighborhood provides the most scenic view of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region. If you stand on one of the many Grandview Avenue observation decks, you quite literally have the city at your feet.

Most people go to Mt. Washington for the views, but they stay for the food, recreation, and sense of community. The neighborhood is an eclectic and diverse neighborhood scattered with millionaires mansions, modern condos, single family homes, and row homes that have been in families for generations. Originally known as “Coal Hill,” Mt. Washington claims the highest elevation in Pittsburgh. The Duquesne and Monongahela Inclines are unique modes of transportation that can take you from the Station Square area to Mt. Washington.

The neighborhood also boasts active business districts and a wide range of parks, green spaces, and recreational activities, and is home to Pittsburgh's newest regional park, Emerald View Park. The 280-acre park, created in December 2005 by the City of Pittsburgh, encircles the hilltop and boasts stunning urban views as well as recreational space. The Mt. Washington Community Development Corp. is working hard to recover, preserve and beautify the wooded terrain and create a network of footpaths from which to walk and see spectacular views.
